The HW Art Cars series is known for transforming Hot Wheels castings into rolling canvases, and this ’67 Austin Mini Van is a perfect example — the Union Jack design pays homage to the Mini’s British heritage while giving it a bold, contemporary pop-art aesthetic that stands out in any collection.
The Real Car Behind the Casting
The Austin Mini was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis and launched by the British Motor Corporation in 1959. The van variant, introduced in 1960, became a staple of British streets — used by everyone from delivery drivers to rock bands. The Mini’s transverse engine layout and compact dimensions revolutionized small car design, and by 1967, the Mini Van had become a symbol of British working-class culture and, later, mod and pop art movements.
The Union Jack livery on this casting is a direct nod to the Mini’s status as a British icon, famously associated with The Beatles, the 1960s London scene, and British racing heritage.
