The Design Story
The Dimachinni Veloce was designed by Dmitriy Shakhmatov, a senior designer for the Hot Wheels brand, and features his nickname “Dima” hidden in the casting’s name. The back of the card reads: “Our own take on the ’70s Italian grand tourer, this four-seater coupe would have been seen slaying the turns of the Rallye Sanremo. It’s ready to shred asphalt or gravel.”
Design inspiration draws from multiple iconic Italian sports cars of the era. Collectors and enthusiasts have identified cues from the Lamborghini Espada in the long-hood silhouette, the Lamborghini Urraco in the flip-up headlights and rear window louvers, and subtle hints of De Tomaso Pantera and Lancia rally machines throughout. The result is a period-perfect mashup that captures the aggressive elegance of Italy’s golden age of GT and rally design.
Casting Notes
The Dimachinni Veloce is notable for its clever use of colour breaks — the black hood, front end, rear louvers and mud flaps are achieved through plastic inserts that reduce weight and cost while delivering a cleaner, more detailed look. The casting also features a 5-spoke spare tire moulded into the rear deck, a signature detail that appears on every release regardless of the main wheel type.
