For seventy years, the phrase “Matchbox 1-75” meant something precise: seventy-five small models, each numbered for life, each sized to fit in a matchbox. This feature marks the anniversary of the most influential numbering system in diecast history. What the 1-75 system meant Lesney Products launched Matchbox in 1953, and by the 1960s the range settled into 75 numbered models — from the No. 1 Diesel Road Roller to No. 75 Ford Escort.
