Mattel Creations SDCC 2026: KPop Demon Hunters Porsche, Stranger Things Van and Top Gun Set – SA Buyer’s Guide

Quick answer: Mattel’s June 2026 SDCC preview revealed three headline collector pieces – a KPop Demon Hunters Porsche 911 GT3 R, a Stranger Things 10th Anniversary Hawkins van and a Top Gun 40th Anniversary set – all Mattel Creations exclusives that South Africans buy via forwarders or local resellers.

Comic-Con season is when Mattel shows its pop-culture muscle, and the 2026 slate announced in June leans hard into three of the biggest entertainment properties on the planet. For the full SDCC picture on the Hot Wheels side, our earlier SDCC 2026 Hot Wheels exclusives report has the brand-specific detail; this piece is the South African buyer’s playbook.

The three headline pieces

KPop Demon Hunters Porsche 911 GT3 R. The pairing nobody predicted: Hot Wheels’ flagship racing Porsche in the visual language of the animated K-pop phenomenon. Cross-franchise pieces like this pull buyers from outside die-cast, which historically means fast sell-outs.

Stranger Things 10th Anniversary Hawkins van. A decade of Hawkins, celebrated in die-cast. Stranger Things vehicles have been consistent performers for every brand that licenses them.

Top Gun 40th Anniversary set. Forty years since Maverick first felt the need for speed – an anniversary set aimed squarely at the crossover movie-memorabilia market.

The SA buying playbook

1. Register on Mattel Creations before drop day – queues and waiting rooms are standard for SDCC pieces.
2. Decide your route early: a US parcel forwarder (cheapest for one or two pieces) or a local importer-reseller (simplest, but expect two to three times the US price landed).
3. Budget in rand, not dollars. A $40 Creations piece is about R700 before shipping; forwarder shipping typically adds R250 – R500 for a single box.
4. Missed the drop? Watch the local secondary market – pieces surface within weeks, at a premium. Our 2026 price guide tracks the broader market.

Where this fits your collection

Entertainment pieces live differently from mainline hunting – they are display-first purchases. If screen cars are your thing at retail prices too, the HW Screen Time 2026 segment and the Comic-Con exclusives guide cover the rest of the year. Browsing what is in stock locally? Latest arrivals.

Frequently asked questions

What did Mattel announce for SDCC 2026?

In June 2026 Mattel previewed its San Diego Comic-Con collector lineup: a Hot Wheels KPop Demon Hunters Porsche 911 GT3 R, a Stranger Things 10th Anniversary Hawkins van, and a Top Gun 40th Anniversary set, all sold through Mattel Creations.

Can South Africans buy Mattel Creations SDCC exclusives?

Yes, but not direct in most cases – Creations drops typically ship to US addresses, so SA collectors use parcel forwarders or buy from local importer-resellers after each drop. Landed prices usually run two to three times the US ticket once shipping and the exchange rate land.

What is the KPop Demon Hunters Hot Wheels car?

A Hot Wheels Porsche 911 GT3 R in KPop Demon Hunters livery, tying Mattel's flagship die-cast brand to the hit animated franchise's aesthetic. It was one of the headline reveals of Mattel's June 2026 SDCC preview.
